Your Stay

Welcome! At Bronson, we do things the new way. That means setting high standards and paying close attention to ways we can improve your hospital experience.  Like having private rooms that lower your risk of infection. Answering your calls right away. Letting you know when we have cleaned your room and changing the thermostat just for you!

We want you to be as comfortable as possible while you are here.

Telephones
Every patient at Bronson receives free local telephone service. The phone number is on the white board on the wall in the room.

You can make local calls at no charge. Please give family and friends your direct patient phone number.

  • To make local calls, dial 9, then dial the seven-digit number
  • To make a long distance call within the 269 area code, dial 3 and wait for the dial tone. Then dial 0 plus area code 269 and the seven-digit number.
  • If using a telephone company calling card, dial 3, then dial the card number. You can also charge to your home phone, call collect, or bill a third party.
  • For operator assistance, dial 3 plus 0.
  • To make a long distance call outside the 269 area code, dial 3 and wait for the dial tone. Then dial 0 plus the area code and number.
  • To charge your call to a major credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Discover) or to a telephone company calling card, enter the credit card number when you hear the dial tone.

AT&T (SBC) handles operator-assisted calls to places outside the 269 area code, but you may use the long distance carrier of your choice. Contact your preferred carrier for access information. For questions about rates, billing or service, please contact AT&T (SBC) Customer Service at (800) 222-0400.

To Reach the Following Operators

  • Hospital Operator:  Dial 0
  • AT&T (SBC):  Dial 3+0

Courtesy and pay telephones are available throughout the hospital. Phone numbers are posted for wheelchair assistance and security.

Your Hospital Bed
Hospital beds are electronically operated. Your caregiver will show you how to work your bed to best fit your needs. Bedside rails are for your safety. They may be raised at night or during the day if you are resting, recovering from surgery, or taking certain medications. The controls that raise and lower the head and foot of your bed are on the bedrails.

Your Call Button
A button to call your caregiver is on a remote control that will be kept by your bed at all times. When you push the red button, the nursing station is alerted. A staff member will answer your call and send the appropriate caregiver to your room.

Most falls occur when patients try to get out of bed on their own-usually to go to the bathroom. It is our job to help keep you safe. Please ask for assistance when getting up so that we can maintain a safe environment for you.

Here are some things you can do to help prevent falls:

  • Always ask for assistance, especially at night
  • Keep your call button near you
  • Make sure there is adequate light to see and keep your eyeglasses within reach
  • Wear slippers with rubber soles to prevent slipping
  • Point out any fluids or obstructions on the floor

Feel free to ask for help frequently. Sometimes people take medications that cause them to use the bathroom more often than they normally would. This cannot be avoided. If possible, call for help before the need to get up and move becomes urgent

Cleaning Your Room
Your room was thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before your arrival and will be cleaned every day by your Environmental Services (EVS) associate. If you have any questions about the cleanliness of your room, please use your call button and ask for your EVS associate.

Room Temperature
Your room has its own thermostat. Please ask that it be adjusted so the temperature is right for you.

Television
Color televisions are in each patient room. Your television control is located on the same device as your nurse call button. Closed captioning is available upon request. Call Facilities Services at 341-7930.
